Hendrik Weissenbruch is considered to be one of the most gifted painters of The Hague School. He mainly painted landscapes in the surroundings of The Hague and in the rural area around Boskoop and Gouda.<\/p>\n
His great strength was the rendering of the typical Dutch light, sometimes clear, sometimes diffuse and damp.<\/p>\n
Skies fascinated him: “Light and sky are the great wizards,” he said, “Both gray rain skies and clear cloudy skies on a summer’s day.” “Painters can never look at the sky enough.”<\/p>\n
Weissenbruch taught Victor Bauffe and Th\u00e9ophile de Bock. His influence can clearly be seen in their paintings.<\/p>\n
